Guess Who's Back? Rediscovering My Love of Blogging

Well hello there! It's been a hot minute, hasn't it? I contemplated several different topics for my first post back on this blog, but I decided to keep things simple. Today, I want to share with you how I rediscovered my love of blogging. And with that, I'll hopefully convince you to dip your toe in the blogging pool too.

I started my first blog way back in 2011, inspired by the likes of Fleur de Force, Zoella and Louise from Sprinkle of Glitter! The truth is, had it not been for them, my career could have looked very different. I graduated from my undergrad in Film and Television Studies, unsure of where I was headed. During the last few months of my studies, after long nights editing my dissertation, the online beauty world was my source of escapism! In addition to learning the names of just about every MAC eyeshadow, however, I learnt something much more valuable. Beauty blogs were changing the marketing game for brands across the globe. And I loved it.

After a phenomenal couple of months in Australia, and a couple of marketing internships, I headed on back to university. Armed with my insider knowledge of the beauty blogging world, I hit on the perfect topic for my Masters in International Marketing dissertation. I studied the impact beauty blogs and social media communities were having on the shopping habits of women aged 18-30. The end result was fascinating, and led to one of my proudest moments. The study was published in an international Marketing journal. All the while, I kept on vlogging and my love of blogging remained strong.

By 2015 I was out in the working world, and in the next few years I would work in house, in an agency and freelance. Each gave me a different experience of marketing, but with one thing in common. The main focus was on social media management. I was running Facebook ad campaigns, creating Instagram post designs and hosting training sessions. I still do! What I was finding less time or opportunity for, however, was blog work. It was still there, ticking away, but at a much lower level than I had experienced since it all began.

My love of blogging was put on the back-burner. In early 2020, however, I landed an amazing new client, who hired me specifically to work on her blog. Within the next few months I'd written and edited countless posts, and it sparked something in me. Before I knew it, I was suggesting adding blogging work to the strategy for another couple of clients. I rediscovered my love of blogging, and just like those early beauty blogs, it changed the game for me.

So here we are, somehow already halfway through 2021, and I know the direction I want to take my business. I want to channel the passion that first put me on this path a decade ago! The more posts I've written and planned, the more sure I've become. And it's not just because I enjoy the writing - blogging, to this day, has incredible potential for growing your business.

With that in mind, I've decided to jump back in with a free webinar! On Friday 25th June, I'll be running through the five main reasons I believe blogging for business should be a part of your strategy in 2021. You can grab a ticket over on Eventbrite (link below!), and the Zoom link will go live the morning of the event.

I want to take this opportunity to share with you all why I'm going to be blogging for my business from now on. Marketing is a journey, and we're all at different stages - but wherever you are, I believe this webinar will be really enlightening!

I hope you can join me in the session, and if you can't make it along, don't worry! I'll be looking to run the webinar again the following month - date TBC. So if you'd like to be put on the waiting list for that, just drop me an email at info@lynseymacmedia.com.

Thanks so much for reading everyone. I can't wait to see some of you at the webinar.

Keep your eyes peeled for my next post. Here to practice what I preach!

Lynsey x
